Folliculitis

Etiology

  • Bacterial (usually staphylococcal)
  • Sycosis (chronic on head and neck)
  • Gram-negative (eg, if on antibiotics for acne)
  • Hot tub folliculitis (pseudomonal)
  • Herpes folliculitis
  • Due to oils, occlusion, perspiration, or rubbing
  • Malassezia furfur (on back)
  • "Steroid acne"
  • Eosinophilic folliculitis (in AIDS)
