Human metapneumovirus (huMPV)
huMPV is the causative agent of infant bronchiolitis in 5–15% of cases.
Accounts for 1–5% childhood upper respiratory infections and 10–15% of hospitalizations for lower respiratory tract infections.
From the family of Paramyxoviridae, this RNA virus is a new metapneumovirus related to the turkey tracheitis virus and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). The first documented case of huMPV occurred in 2001 in the US.
