Associated with venous catheters: S. aureus (GPC) (65–78%), coagulase-negative staphylococci (GPC), Candida sp. (yeast), Pseudomonas sp. (GNR), Enterobacteriaceae (GNR), streptococci (GPC), enterococci (GPC), anaerobes.

Hyperalimentation with catheter: Candida sp., Malassezia furfur (yeast).

Indwelling venous catheter (eg, Broviac, Hickman): S. aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci, diphtheroids (GPR), Pseudomonas sp., Enterobacteriaceae, Candida sp.

Postpartum or postabortion pelvic thrombophlebitis: Bacteroides (GNR), Enterobacteriaceae, clostridium (GPR), streptococcus (GPC).
