Etiology

  • Luteal phase insufficiency (insufficient progesterone)
  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Congenital anatomic lesion, eg, septate uterus
  • Acquired anatomic lesion, eg, incompetent cervix, intrauterine adhesions, submucous uterine leiomyoma (fibroid)
  • Polycystic ovary syndrome
  • Antiphospholipid antibody syndrome or other hypercoagulable state
  • Balanced chromosomal translocation
