- Endocrine: hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, Cushing’s syndrome
- Chronic hypokalemia
- Polymyositis
- Dermatomyositis
- HIV myopathy
- Hyperparathyroidism
- Muscular dystrophy, eg, Duchenne, Becker, limb-girdle, facioscapulohumeral (FSH)
- Myotonic dystrophy
- Myotonia congenita
- Inclusion body myositis
- Mitochondrial myopathy
- Sarcoidosis
- Drugs: corticosteroids, statins, clofibrate, colchicine, chloroquine, zidovudine, emetine, aminocaproic acid, bretylium, penicillamine, drugs causing hypokalemia
