Iron-deficiency anemia
Etiology
- Blood loss: gastrointestinal, menstrual, repeated blood donation
- Deficient diet
- Increased requirements: pregnancy, lactation
- Hemoglobinuria, eg, paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria
- Malabsorption, eg, gastric surgery, celiac disease
- Hemolysis
- Pulmonary hemosiderosis (iron sequestration)
