Etiology

  • Thyroidectomy
  • Hypomagnesemia
  • Parathyroid adenoma removal
  • DiGeorge's syndrome (with congenital cardiac defects and facial anomalies)
  • Heavy metals: Wilson's disease, hemochromatosis, transfusion hemosiderosis
  • Other: granulomas, autoimmune, Riedel's thyroiditis, tumor, infection, irradiation
