  • Venous insufficiency
  • Arterial insufficiency (arterial ulcer)
  • Stasis dermatitis (due to venous insufficiency)
  • Diabetic neuropathy
  • Bacterial pyoderma (eg, infected wound or bite)
  • Trauma
  • Pressure ulcer
  • Vasculitis, eg, thromboangiitis obliterans (Buerger’s disease)
  • Rheumatoid arthritis or Felty’s syndrome
  • Pyoderma gangrenosum
  • Underlying skin cancer
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Embolic disease (including cholesterol emboli)
  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Erythema induratum (associated with tuberculosis)
  • Other underlying infection (eg, fungal, tertiary syphilis, leishmaniasis, amebiasis, dracunculiasis)
  • Calciphylaxis
