Description

  • The phalanges of the foot are prone to injury
  • The 5th (small) toe is the most commonly fractured toe in adults

Etiology

  • Usually the result of direct trauma
  • Most common mechanisms: Axial loading (stubbing the toe, kicking a hard surface), or crush injuries (dropping a heavy object onto toes)
