  • Recurrent laryngeal nerve damage: thyroid or other neck surgery, lung cancer, thyroid cancer
  • Laryngeal cancer
  • Esophageal cancer
  • Intubation injury
  • Cricoarytenoid arthritis (in rheumatoid arthritis)
  • Glottic or subglottic stenosis
  • Skull base tumor involving cranial nerves IX, X, and XI
